Language models invent paragraphs with authority. Verifact returns only what is evidenced in the signed knowledge store — with citation, a confidence value and a proof that third parties can verify offline. Otherwise it says honestly: there is no reliable basis for this.
The problem
For legal professionals, an invented citation or a superseded version of a statute is not a matter of convenience but of liability. The gap in the market is not “more knowledge” but citable knowledge with verifiable proof — and the open admission when something is not evidenced.
How it works
- 01 An immutable, signed knowledge store: every statement carries its own signature and sits in a verification chain. Retrospective changes stand out; all signatures are checked at start-up.
- 02 Confidence levels as a fixed label on every statement — from proven, through evidenced, down to a provision or ruling as a single source. An AI agent can thus tell hard facts from indications.
- 03 Search in four stages: find candidates, re-rank them, abort honestly below a threshold instead of returning a false hit, then add referenced provisions.
- 04 Citation checking without a language model: statutory citations in a document are checked deterministically — verified, superseded, not in the corpus or not checkable.
- 05 Connection to Claude, ChatGPT and your own agents via six typed tools (MCP interface), plus a signed answer receipt for third-party verification.
Sovereignty & evidence
- Operation and data storage in Germany (STACKIT, Frankfurt region).
- Official primary sources only: German federal law, federal case law, EU law, Bundestag proceedings, EBA/ESMA.
- No tracking, no third-party services on the platform; imprint, privacy policy, terms, data processing agreement and technical and organisational measures are published.
- A deliberate limit: Verifact does not replace legal interpretation or review by a qualified professional. It evidences that something applies and since when — not what follows from it.
Why Verifact exists
A language model can invent a statutory provision as convincingly as it can cite one. Anyone working with that in a law firm or tax advisory carries the risk personally. Verifact therefore draws a hard line between what the model formulates and what is evidenced in the knowledge store. The truth lives in the signed store, not in the weights of a model.
What we learned from it
The real value does not lie in the freely available statutory texts that anyone can download. It lies in the layer above them — prepared, dated, labelled with a confidence level and cryptographically evidenced — and in the discipline of saying “not evidenced”. This is exactly the layer we also build for corporate knowledge: sovereign AI in-house.
Status
Verifact is live: a public platform with demo, pricing page and documented interface. The body of law keeps growing, most recently by commercial register and insolvency announcements. Prices and terms are on the project site, not here — they change faster than a portfolio page.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Verifact legal advice?
- No. Verifact evidences that a provision or ruling exists, in which version and since when. Interpretation and responsibility remain with the qualified professional. The platform itself says so clearly.
- What happens when Verifact does not know something?
- Then you get an honest gap instead of a plausible invention. If the best hit falls below the verification threshold, the system answers “not evidenced” and still shows the weak hits so that you can judge for yourself.
- How do I verify a proof independently?
- Every answer can carry a signed receipt. With the platform's public key it can be verified offline — without access to Pioneerdesk's systems.
- Does Verifact also run in-house?
- The core also runs fully locally with SQLite. On-premise operation is part of our integration offering; the public platform is operated in Germany.
